At the 2009 Boulder High School Fall Sports Recognition Night, Spencer Sarson was named the Male Fall Athlete of the Year. This honor is selected by the head coaches of all in the fall varsity sports at Boulder High School. Spencer was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the boys soccer program with a record setting 27 goals this fall, 1st Team All-State selection and 1st Team All Front Range League honors. Spencer was a three year varsity player for Boulder High School.
Coach Hardy Kalisher introduced Spencer at the Fall Sports Recognition Night and highlighted that Spencer’s success on the soccer field was the result of his dedication and preparation to each season. Spencer improved each year, became a team co-captain and MVP while displaying good character and humility. Spencer was not a standout player as a freshman or at the start of his sophomore year, however, with his hard work, quickness and a desire to score goals, he worked his way into a starting varsity position and eventually to the top level of Colorado high school soccer.
Spencer, a true team player, was brief and to the point in accepting the honor and gave much of the credit to his teammates who provided many of the opportunities he had to score.
Spencer follows 2009 graduate, Adam Hinkelman as back-to-back Male Fall Athlete of the Year from the BHS Boys Soccer program. Over the last four years, five boys soccer players have been recognized by the BHS Fall Head Coaches for either Fall Athlete of the Year or Fall Sportsman of the Year: Spencer Sarson (Athlete of the Year, 2009), Adam Hinkelman (Athlete of the Year, 2008), Devin Kuh (Sportsman of the Year, 2008), Tim Smith (Sportsman of the Year, 2007) Jorge Altamira (Sportsman of the Year 2006).
