Fall 2017 Coaching Staff

Head Coach, Hardy Kalisher (13th year)
Coach Hardy Kalisher, with the support of the Boulder High Athletic Department, is responsible for the entire boys soccer program. He is the varsity team head coach, directs all preseason and winter soccer programs, conducts tryouts and player placement, supervises and provides support to all the boys soccer teams and players.

Hardy is Boulder High’s longest running boy soccer coach and has led the Panthers during the most successful period in the boys soccer programs 35 year history.

Team Achievements:

Under Hardy’s leadership and direction, the Panthers have reached the Colorado State Playoffs in each of his 12 previous season as varsity head coach, achieved its first State Championship (2012); 2nd State Championship (2016) State Runner Up (2014); 5 Semi-Finals (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016) League Championship (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017); and the Quarter-finals (2009, 2015); finished as League Runner Up (2007, 2011, 2013); 12 consecutive years of Colorado 5A Top 10 rankings; 3 National Rankings (2015, 2016, 2017) including #1 in the Nation (November, 2016) and #3 (2017); 2 #1 NSCAA Western US Ranking (2016, 2017); 4 Top 10 NSCAA Western USA Ranking (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017); 8 time Top 15 Ranking in the NSCAA Western USA Rankings (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). Boulder High finished the 2016 season the #1 ranked public school in the nation in all 3 major national ranking polls and #2 overall (NSCAA/USA Today, TopDrawer, MaxPreps).

In 2016 Boulder High was named Colorado Boys Team of the Year by both Channel 9 News &  Xfinity Sports Report. MaxPreps and the US Army National Guard Honored BHS on their Tour of Champions as one of the top high school boys soccer programs in the country. 

Under Coach Hardy, Boulder High players have earned 2 All-Americans,  2 Colorado Player of the Year Awards, 3 5A Player of the Year Honors, 4 All-Region (Western US) and 1 Pre-Season All-American, dozens of All-State honors.

Coaching Background/Education:

Hardy began coaching as a teenager in California in the 1980s. Hardy has coached over 100 boys and girls that have gone on to play collegiate soccer and several that have gone on to play in the MLS and in professional leagues in Europe. Hardy received coaching training in Holland with the KNVB (Dutch National soccer federation, in London at Chelsea FC and in Spain with Real Madrid. Hardy holds a USSF License and regularly attends the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention.

Hardy speaks at conferences and symposiums about the value and techniques of establishing a Culture that inspires young men and women to be the best versions of themselves. 

Hardy has been actively coaching youth soccer in Boulder, Colorado since 1994. He is a former Staff Coach for the Colorado Rapids Youth Academy, Director at Boulder County Force Soccer Club (now known as FC Boulder).

Playing Days:
As a student-athlete, Hardy’s collegiate experience includes being a member of the 1992 NCAA Division I National Championship Finalist and West Coast Conference Champions, University of San Diego. In 1990 he played overseas against professional teams in England and Ireland. During his high schools days Hardy was team captain, league champion and CIF CCS-California Interscholastic Federation Champion at Sacred Heart Prep in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hardy was the first male student-athlete at Sacred Heart Prep to play NCAA Division I athletics. 

Hardy enjoys playing soccer regularly in the Colorado adult soccer leagues and has lived in Boulder County since 1993.

Associate Head Coach, Junior Varsity Head Coach: Chris Honkamp (12th year)
Coach Honkamp will be starting his 12th season in the program and is responsible for preparing Junior Varsity student-athletes for success at the Varsity level. Chris is involved in all aspects of coaching in the Boulder High soccer program including summer, preseason and winter indoor soccer. In 2016 and 2017, Coach Chris was nominated for the NSCAA National Assistant Coach of the Year. As a tremendous asset to the program and highly regarded youth coach and role model, Chris remains dedicated and loyal to Boulder High School soccer despite regular offers to be the head coach at various high schools and with the top youth clubs in Colorado. Chris’ passion is Boulder High School Boys Soccer and we fortunate to have such a qualified coach in the program. Chris is a former Director of Coaching for a local soccer club.

Chris played his prep soccer at one of the consistently top nationally ranked high school programs in the county, Marquette High School, Wisconsin. 


Freshmen/Sophomore Head Coach: Landon Roos
2018 is Landon Roos’ third season as a member of the BHS coaching staff but is hardly new to the coaching philosophies of the program or the high standards required to maintain a top high school soccer program. Landon played several youth seasons for Coach Hardy when he was also the starting center midfielder for the Colorado Olympic Development Program team. In high school, Landon played at Broomfield High School where he was a co-captain and varsity standout. Landon went on to be Captain of the University of Colorado men’s team and play for Harpo’s FC. When he isn’t coaching, Landon is an award-winning filmmaker.



Assistant Coach: Jack Huettel
The Huettel family is a well-known name in Boulder High Soccer. Jack is the eldest of 3 boys (Jack, Henry, and Leo) to play and start for Boulder High School. As a three-year varsity starter and co-captain, Jack led Boulder High to its first 5A State Semi-Final and League Championship in 2010. During his run at BHS Jack was known for his incredible work rate, competitive spirit and ability to compete against some of the best high school players in the country. Jack was named All-State his junior and senior year. Jack is currently attending the University of Colorado where he has played on the CU Club team as well as top-flight local semi-pro teams.


Goalkeeper Coach: Henry Huettel
One of two Huettels to start in goal for the BHS varsity program. Henry is the most successful keeper in BHS history. Henry is a 2-time All-State goalkeeper, 3x All-Conference, 2012 State Champion, 2013 State Semi-Finalist.  


Game Film Analyst: Bruce Pelz
Bruce is a former player and goalkeeper coach for the BHS program. Bruce was a varsity starter in goal as a freshman at Boulder High. He grew up playing youth soccer in Boulder including several seasons with Coach Hardy.  Bruce is very active running a non-profit in Tanzania, Africa, Maji Safi Group,  that helps supply clean water and educate the importance of hygiene for Tanzanian communities in Africa.
