All-State: Mason Doulliard, Henry Huettel
2012 | 14-6-0 (5-0)
Highlights: Boulder started the season with 2 wins and 5 losses after player a schedule that included 7 teams ranked in the Top 10 in Colorado. A tough schedule was designed by Coach Hardy to challenge and prepare the squad for the second half of a season. The plan worked as the Panthers when on an exceptional roll all the way to the programs first and Boulder County’s first 5A State Championship Title in Boys Soccer. This was Boulder High’s first Boys State title in any sport since 1992. 2012 is officially the first season that Boulder High Boys Soccer started to call themselves “La Familia”.
2011 | 9-4-3 (0-1)
Highlights: Boulder continued its streak of playoff appearance by qualify for its 5th consecutive Colorado 5A State Playoff. A very young team, #8 seeded Panthers were upset at home in the first round by always tough Grandview. This first round loss would inspire the Panthers in the future. Boulder did well during the season with a stingy defense that gave up just 11 goals and finished 2nd in the Front Range League. Leading goal scorer Ivan Ramirez was an expert at scoring off freekick throughout the season and carried the offense down the stretch. Senior and 4 year varsity student-athlete Rojesh Shretha scored 6 goals and 5 assists. Senior Kyle Hawkins made the transition from defender to winger to score 5 goals. 2011 was the year the sophomore winger.
Senior Captain Jack Huettel led the team on the field with his great competitive spirit. A defensive midfielder became Boulder’s first 2 time All-State soccer player. Jack would later go on to volunteer as a coach at BHS.
2011 was a year that three BHS soccer legends made their varsity introductions. Mason Doulliard introduced himself to Colorado high school soccer with a team leading 7 assists and 5 goals. Doulliard foreshadowed why he would go on to be one of the most prolific attacking players in BHS history. Sophomore goalkeeper, Henry Huettel plays all 15 games and gave up just 10 goal with a .70 goals against average. A young Quinn Liebmann earned his varsity letter as a freshman splitting time between the varsity and JV team.
All-State: Jack Huettel
2010 | 16-2-1 (3-1)
Highlights: In 2010 Boulder took the program to new heights by winning the Front Range League and advancing to the Colorado 5A State Semi-Finals for the first time. In the Semi-Finals Boulder lost 2-1 in overtime (after a spectacular 30 goal from Captain Jack Huettel sent the game to overtime) to eventual state champ Cherry Creek, who’s coach described Boulder as the best team they played all year. Boulder set a program record with 16 win in one season, a record that still hold as of 2015.
In what has been described as one of the greatest playoff games in Colorado high school history, Boulder High played their city rival, Fairview at home for the Quarter-Finals in front of 4500 people. Boulder won 3-1.
All-State: Jack Huettel
2009 | 13-5-0 (2-1)
Highlights: 2009 was the year that BHS broke into the elite top programs in Colorado 5A soccer after slowing building momentum between 2006-2008. Led by Co-Captains, Andrew Flint and Spencer Sarson, Boulder had a record setting year. The varsity team won two play-off games for the first time in the programs 28 year history and reached the State Playoff Quarter-Finals for the first team since the tournament expanded to 32 teams. In the first round of the playoffs #14 seeded Boulder beat #19 seeded Littleton High School 2-0 in a well controlled game. In the second round, Boulder traveled to #3 seeded Liberty High School in Colorado Springs. Senior Walter Bertini scored a 30 yard goal in the second overtime period to clinch the 1-0 victory, a trip the Quarter-Finals and arguably the biggest win in 29 years of BHS soccer. In the Quarter-Final, the Panthers played a evenly matched and hard fought game vs. Arapahoe High School. In the end, the Panthers were unable to finish several good chances in a 1-0 lose,
The Panthers started a buzz about the 2009 program after a 6-0 routing at Colorado Springs’ 4A power and #6 ranked Lewis-Palmer in the season opener. The Panthers were Ranked #2 in MaxPreps.Com weekly 5A coaches poll early in the season and remained in the top 5 until the last week of the season when they dropped a game to league and state champions Fort Collins High School. The Denver Post had Boulder High Ranked in the top 10 all year. In Front Range League play, Boulder High lost just three games and finish in 4th place. For the second year in a row the Front Range League proved to be the strongest soccer league in Colorado with four teams from the league advancing to the State Playoff Quarter-Finals, 2 in the Semi-Finals and 1 State Champion. For the first time in three years, Boulder hosted Fairview at Recht Field in front of an estimated 2000 fans but dropped the game 0-1 on a long free kick in the final minutes of the game. This was the first year that both Boulder and Fairview were ranked in the top 10 at the same time. Boulder’s only losses of the year came to 2009 State Championship Quarter-finalists, Fairview; Semi-Finalists Arapahoe and Rocky Mountain, 2009 State Champions Fort Collins and 2008 State Champions Denver East. Clearly, Boulder was among the top in 2009.
Boulder achieved several team records in 2009.
• 68 total team goals breaking the previous record of 59 set 19 seasons prior (1991). The goals came with what is believed to be a program record 54 assists.
• For the second year in a row Boulder was ranked #15 in the Far West by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
• Senior Forward Spencer Sarson set a program record with 27 goals in one season and 42 goals in his career. Spencer had 5 hat tricks (3 goals or more in one game) including 5 goals in 2 games, 4 goals in a 4-3 thriller vs. Mountain Range High and 3 goals in two other games.
• Senior Forward Walter Bertini tallied his second double digit goal scoring season with 13 goals including all 3 of the teams playoff goals. Had Walter not missed playing 4 games including 3 league games we would have been a sure bet for 1st Team All-Conference and All-State considerations.
• In all, the Bertini and Sarson duo scored for 68 varsity goals at Boulder.
• Junior midfielder Brook Assefa led the team with 10 assists from the midfield. Making him the first double digit assisting player since BHS standout Patrick Huffer (Class of 2002).
Senior Goalkeeper Garrett Spenst led a trio of varsity goalkeepers and finished the season with just 12 goals against and a 0.93 goals against average. The BHS defense was led by the standout play of Max Jaffee (Sr), Andrew Flint (Sr.), Eduardo Segovia (Sr), Cody Vann (Sr) and Alden Lowney (Sr) played significant minutes early in the season before moving to the forward position. Max Jaffee completed four years as a varsity starter and scored a goal in each of the season opening games during that four season period…a feat that may not be seen again.
