Each individual student-athlete is responsible for his summer fitness, effort, commitment, contribution to the team, attendance, and all state, district, school and program requirements for academic performance and personal conduct. All players are held accountable for following the soccer program rules and expectations.

Fitness Testing and Expectations:
• There are fitness tests and conditioning minimums for varsity and junior varsity team selection. All players must participate in fitness testing even if they do not expect to be selected for the varsity or junior varsity teams. The high school soccer season is too short for student-athletes to expect to "get into shape" during the season. We play our first game only two weeks after tryouts begin. It takes at least eight weeks to be in "game" shape. The average high school varsity soccer player can run over 5.5 miles a game. Varsity and junior varsity prospects need to come to tryouts already in game shape. The following tests are used to determine the conditioning of each prospective student-athlete. If a student-athlete does not achieve the minimum test results but demonstrates other attributes needed to play soccer at the varsity or junior varsity level, then they may be allowed to retest until successful. Retesting will have to be scheduled with the coaching staff.

WHEN IS PRE-SEASON CAMP?
August 4-8, 2008 - mornings, time to be announced.

DO I HAVE TO GO TO THE PRE-SEASON CAMP?
The camp is optional but highly recommended. A significant amount of the important preparation for a successful soccer season involves pre-season camp. Camp is a great opportunity to meet the other student-athletes, coaches and make an impression.

WHEN ARE TRYOUTS?
Official tryouts are August 11-13, 2008, twice a day, 10am-noon and 7pm-9pm (not the time change). Team practices begin on August 14, 2008.

HOW MANY TEAMS WILL THERE BE?

There will be three teams for the fall 2008 season: Varsity, Junior Varsity and a Frosh/Soph team.

DO ALL THE STUDENTS WHO TRYOUT MAKE A TEAM?
We have more players trying out for placement in the program than we have room. Seniors who tryout must make the varsity team in order to play soccer for BHS. Juniors must make the varsity or junior varsity teams in order to play soccer for BHS.

ARE ALL TRYOUT DATES MANDATORY?
Yes. Summer jobs and vacations are NOT an exceptable excuse. It is very competitive to make a BHS Boys Soccer team. Be sure to consider tryout dates when planning summer vacations. Missing tryout sessions for any reason may jeopardize your chances or making a team, especiallly missing due to non-registration. Get you physical during the summer! Please let you parents/guardian know how important tryout participation is to your goals of playing soccer at BHS.

IF I AM SICK OR INJURED SHOULD I STILL COME TO TRYOUTS?
Injured students should still come to tryouts if they are to be considered for placement on a team. If a student is to sick to come to tryouts they must contact the Coach Hardy Kalisher.

WHEN ARE TRYOUT RESULTS ANNOUNCED?:

Tryout results will be posted on the soccer locker room door in the BHS gymnasium at 7pm on Wednesday, August 13.

HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?
Team coaches and assistant coaches help with the evaluation process. Each student at tryouts will have ample opportunity to showcase themselves. Specifically, the coaches look to evaluate the four components of a soccer player: (1) technical ability -- speed of play, successful application of skill at high speed and while under high pressure (2) tactical awareness and application -- speed of thought, ability to read the game and make decisions that are best for the team (3) physical development, conditioning and attributes - speed, quickness, strength, agility, aerobic capacity (4) psychological - maturity, competitive spirit, attentiveness, leadership, communication, mental toughness, cooperation.

Roster size and composition: The reality is that the varsity team is composed of 14-15 student-athletes who receive the vast majority of playing time. A roster of 18 is ideal for practice, games and team chemistry. A varsity team is usually made up of 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 4 forwards and 7 midfielders. Of course, each season may bring a different composition of positions.
• All student-athletes, regardless of their grade level, are eligible to "make" varsity.
• Seniors must make the varsity team or they are not eligible to participate in BHS soccer. Ideally, a senior prepared themselves and developed into the type of varsity student-athlete we are looking for at BHS. Seniors who are not placed on a team are encouraged to continue their participation in soccer through alternative opportunities or to go out for another BHS fall sports. The coaches are available to discuss these opportunities if a spot is not offered on the varsity team.
• Just because a student-athlete was on varsity or junior varsity last year does not guarantee he will make varsity or junior varsity this year.
• Everything above applies to the junior varsity team with a few adjustments. A junior must make the junior varsity or varsity team or they are not eligible to participate in BHS soccer.
• Purple is the third level team at BHS and is comprised of sophomores and freshmen. This team will play it's Front Range League games versus 3rd level teams.
